Over the last few weeks, our world seems to have turned upside down. As the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak continues to spread, so many industries are feeling the effects. When it comes to Top Event Ideas, our hearts are with everyone across the world. And while it may pale in comparison to the threat of human life, please know that we feel the burden the entertainment industry is currently facing.
The coronavirus outbreak is hitting the entertainment industry hard. With shows postponing and/or canceling, we know you all are feeling the immediate impact of COVID-19. It is thought that because of the outbreak, our industry could feel the financial repercussions for months or even years to come. On March 11th RollingStone.com suggested that the concert business stands to lose billions this year due to the set-back of both cancelled and postponed events.
Government entities have not given a true timeline for how long this outbreak will be considered a health crisis, but the rules being put into place where no gatherings of 50 or more people can take place show that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aren’t messing around. Limiting gatherings is completely understandable, as coronavirus spreads when individuals are in close proximity with others. A CDC representative told the New York Times that this gathering rule will likely last for at least two months in order to contain COVID-19 or ‘flatten the curve’ of the rapid growth rate that this pandemic is creating in all of our lives.
So as an artist, what can you do in the interim while you are waiting for the world to pick up and move again? We want to encourage you to seize the moment and focus on your brand, build hype, and grow your following.
Focus on Your Brand
There are so many ways to focus on your brand. At Top Events, we suggest putting extra time and energy into the content you put on social media. Your goal? To revitalize it. This can be accomplished by making sure your followers have a well-balanced perception of who you are and what you bring to the table. From there you must work to maintain that social voice so that your followers keep coming back to you looking for more content.
Remember, you want to stand out from the competition. It wouldn’t hurt to take a look at their accounts and think of ways you can provide your followers with better content and thus create a buzz. Building this online buzz will take work, but in the end if just might advance your career.
Build Hype
Once you have developed a consistent brand and story through all of your social media platforms, we suggest working to build hype around who you are as an artist. Rather you are a comedian, singer, speaker or magician, we want you to use your social media accounts to showcase some of your talents. Let your audience hear you perform a cover of your favorite song or let them listen to a couple minutes of a talk they have yet to hear. Choose to do a live Q&A session, or consistently post to your stories so that your followers can get to know you better. Anything you choose to do will make a difference.
Grow Your Following
How does one grow their social following, you ask? You grow your following by focusing on your brand and building hype surrounding you as an artist. Let’s be honest, one of the main reasons’ celebrity accounts are so popular is that celebrities are known for taking the time to engage with fans over social media. Now is the time to capitalize on this as so many people are quarantined in their homes and are looking for a small outlet into someone else’s’ life. The simple action of engaging with fans is a sure-fire way to help your following grow.
The most important recommendation that we have for you as an artist is to stay practicing. Take the time you have be given to update your promo videos and your website on top of diligently pursing social media content and connections. At Top Event Ideas, we want to see each and every one of you succeed in the entertainment industry. In turn, we hope to help you take what should be seen as a setback and turn it into an opportunity for you to grow as an artist.
This is your time to shine, and we are confident you will make the best out of it.
